Unfortunately, publishers can have strict release dates that can’t always be moved no matter how little sense it makes to release their games next to one of the generation’s biggest titles. This means that many other games released in June 2020 have gone unnoticed, let’s take a look at 10 other great games that may have been missed by gamers that were too busy with The Last of Us Part 2.

10 The Elder Scrolls: Greymore

Released on June 9, 2020, for the PC, PS4, and the Xbox One, The Elder Scrolls: Greymore is an expanded chapter in The Elder Scrolls Online MMORPG. It is set in Western Skyrim with the chapter’s events taking place 1000 years before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Fans of The Elder Scrolls series will love the chance to revisit Skyrim on more powerful hardware as it’s never looked so good in this 15-hour expansion. Furthermore, the series’ lore is given even more depth by allowing its players to delve deeper into Tamriel’s history with the new Antiquities mechanics.

9 SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated

SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated was released on 23 June 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and the PC. It is a remake of the 2003 original 3D platformer released on the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and the Xbox.

SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom was often compared favorably to Super Mario 64. It’s a bright and colorful adventure that’s fun for fans and even non-fans alike, it’s a gentle reminder that not all games need to be dark and brooding to achieve mainstream appeal.

8 1971 Project Helios

Released on Jun 9, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the PC 1971 Project Helios is a turn-based military strategy game set in 1971. From a gameplay perspective, it is comparable to the XCOM series but is far more simplistic in its design.

However, the implementation of its cold weather mechanics brings a similar amount of tension and quick thinking to the game as the aforementioned series. Project Helios has a fantastic setting and the developers Reco Technology has clearly put a lot of effort into crafting a believable and intriguing world.

7 Disintegration

Released on June 16, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the PC, Disintegration is a science fiction first-person shooter with real-time strategy elements. It was directed by the co-creator of the Halo series Marcus Lehto at his studio V1 Interactive.

With expectations being so high it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Halo series, but it is still a solid game in its own right. It has a good single-player experience with a surprisingly gripping story, and the multiplayer while not perfect shows a lot of promise that can easily be expanded and improved over time with support from the developers.

6 Assetto Corsa Competizione

Released for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One just over a year after the PC version, Assetto Corsa Competizione is a hardcore racing simulation game for serious players only. It is the official game of the GT World Challenge Championships and features real-world cars, drivers, teams, and circuits.

Being a pure simulation racing experience, Assetto Corsa Competizione is not a game that is suited to gamers that enjoy the pick-up-and-play arcade-style experiences, it takes some serious time and investment from its players.

5 Evan’s Remains

Released on June 11, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and the PC, Evan’s Remains is a side-scrolling graphic adventure game with platforming and logic-based puzzles. Despite the studio Whitethorn Games being based in the US, Evan’s Remains takes inspiration from Japanese visual novels.

The game features a lovely art design with an intriguing narrative and gameplay mechanics that are balanced so they never outstay their welcome. With that said, Evan’s Remains is a short game with a running time of only around 3 hours but there’s a surprising amount of depth here for players to enjoy and return to.

4 Star Wars Episode I: Racer

Released on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and the PC on June 23, 2020, Star Wars Episode I: Racer is a remaster of the Nintendo 64 sci-fi racing game based on the racing scenes in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

It has an amazing sense of speed and its excellent track design filled with shortcuts and replayability still stands the test of time. It does show its age in its visual and sound design but the handling and gameplay have definitely seen an upgrade since its N64 days. However, even without the Star Wars license, Racer is a good game that stood with the likes of WipeOut and F-Zero.

3 Beyond Blue

Released on June 11, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the PC, Beyond Blue is an underwater adventure game from the developers of the hit indie title Never Alone. Just like its predecessor, Beyond Blue incorporates elements of fiction and education to tell its story.

The footage used in the game was based on the BBC documentary mini-series Blue Planet II narrated by David Attenborough. The aquatic world itself is an absolute joy to explore and is helped by some stunning visuals making it a fascinating journey for all ages.

2 Ys: Memories Of Celceta

Released on June 9, 2020, in the US and on the same day as The Last of Us Part 2 in Europe on the 19th of June Ys: Memories of Celceta unsurprisingly went unnoticed upon its release. It’s a remaster of the PlayStation Vita original itself a remake of Ys IV that released in 2014.

Despite its dated-looking visuals, Ys: Memories of Celcetta has one of the best action combat systems in the genre bar none. The level and dungeon designs are comparable to The Legend of Zelda series and the soundtrack is some of the best in any generation.

1 Desperados III

Despite the Red Dead Redemption series helping to make the American Wild West popular again, there’s still a shortage of video games that let players step into the shoes of an outlaw or a cowboy. With Desperados III that makes two on this list released within close proximity of each other.

Released on June 16, 2020, for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the PC Desperados III is an isometric stealth/strategy game in the same vein as the classic Commandos series and the more recent Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun created by the same developers. Fans of the trial and error style gameplay of its predecessors and the Hitman series which uses a similar approach should definitely invest in Desperados III.
