It is very important for new players to research the game before they start playing, to avoid making mistakes (as many have already done). After all, it’s no fun making the same mistake as everyone else. Many of these errors are very common among newcomers.
10 Not Marking Their Oculus
While exploring, the player might encounter a floating Anemonculus (Mondstadt’s Oculus) or Geoculus (Liyue’s Oculus). Players can spot the nearby Oculus by paying attention to their minimap. They’re used to make offerings to a Statue of The Seven, which rewards the player with various items. It’s common, however, for players to take the Oculus and proceed onwards without marking them.
It is crucial to mark the Oculus’ location, either by using the map pin or using an interactive map. This is to avoid a difficult time later in the game, when just a few of them are missing and it’s very hard to tell which.
9 Not Researching The Rate-Up, Hard Pity, And Soft Pity Mechanics
There are three banners available in Genshin Impact: Standard Banner, Limited Banner, and Weapon Banner. Rate-up drop is a mechanic exclusive to Weapon Banner and Limited Banner, which means players will have a higher chance of obtaining the specified rewards (Venti or Childe, perhaps) from the gacha system.
It is also important for new players to know about the Pity System, through which a 5-star item is guaranteed after numerous wishes. For example, players are sure to obtain a 5-star character on their 90th wish on the Limited Banner, if they haven’t received any in their previous 89 wishes. This guarantee system is called “Hard pity.” “Soft pity,” on the other hand, offers no guarantee for the players. After the 75th wish, players are just given a higher chance of obtaining a 5-star. This chance is estimated to be a 30 percent chance, much higher than the original 0.6 percent chance.
8 Missing Out On Ascension Quests
A lot of players have found themselves stuck at AR25 or AR35. This problem occurs because the players have not yet tackled an Ascension Quest. These missions increase the players’ World Level and allow them to advance their Adventure Rank.

Raising the World Level will result in the enemies becoming harder, but players will be rewarded for this rise of difficulty. A higher enemy level means Travelers will also have a greater chance to obtain a better drop, making the process a necessity in the long run.
7 Expecting Chests To Respawn
New Genshin Impact players might expect that chests would respawn, thus providing further reason to explore the map. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Players currently won’t be able to check a spot where they previously found a chest in the hope they will find another.
Chests are available throughout the world, and sometimes more are added to the game through various updates. Existing chests do not respawn, though, and never have. If players previously thought they found a chest that had done so, they probably simply overlooked it the first time.
6 Spending Wishes On A Variety Of Banners
For beginners, this is one of the most important pieces of information to know: Pity systems are not shared between different banners, but are shared for the same type of banners. Players are guaranteed to obtain a 5-star after 90 wishes through “Hard Pity,” but if players spread out these 90 wishes between multiple banners, the Pity system will not work.
For example, if a Traveler makes 30 wishes on the Standard banner and 60 wishes on the Limited banner, they will not be guaranteed a 5-star. However, if wishes are made 60 times on the current Limited Banner and the featured character changes, their Pity counter will not be reset (so the player will be guaranteed a 5-star after 30 further wishes on that same banner). As such, players should focus on one banner if they wish to get a 5-star as soon as possible.
5 Not Utilizing Elemental Reactions
New players might be overwhelmed by the game’s elemental reaction combat system. It’s worth diving into, however, because it has tremendous potential. Failing to understand how elemental interact will make the game progressively harder for new players as they level up, so it’s essential for beginners to familiarize themselves with it.
For example, using Pyro (fire) and Cryo (ice) together will result in a reaction called “Melt,” which will amplify the players’ damage dealt by 1.5x or 2x. Players can also pair Hydro (water) and Cryo, which will “Freeze” the enemies (Kaeya is particularly adept at this), rendering them immobilized.
4 Not Doing Weekly Bosses
Weekly Bosses are easy to miss in the early game. New players are usually occupied with finishing quests and exploring the map, so they often miss the limited opportunities to challenge these formidable foes. The weekly bosses that are currently available are: the mighty “Dominator of Wolves,” Lupus Boreas, the Dragon of the East “Stormterror” Dvalin, and 11th of the Fatui Harbingers “Tartaglia” Childe.

Weekly bosses can be challenging for new players, but missing out on these encounters means players will have a smaller chance of obtaining a weapon Prototype (or “Billet” after the name change), an item that can be used to forge a 4-star weapon that’ll further assist the player’s development.
3 Not Using Original Resin
The vast open world before the player at the start of the game is irresistible. New players can easily be distracted by exploring and not pay attention to more low-key features, like the Resin system. This is designed to prevent players from finishing the entire game in a few days or weeks. It will force them to log in daily just to use their daily Original Resin.
With this in mind, it’s crucial for new players to spend their daily Resin, even if there is still plenty of early game content they’re itching to jump into. It’s worth taking the time to do so in the long run, because paying attention to the Resin feature and making the best use of this limited resource will allow new players to grow faster.
2 Missing Out On Commissions
Daily commissions are the best way to obtain Primogems. Players can earn 60 Primogems daily from commissions. Completing them also increases Adventure Experience, helping new players to level up their Adventure Rank as quickly as possible. Missing out on commissions in the early game is a sure way to forego a lot of experience and Primogems.
Other than increasing Adventure Rank, finishing commissions also allows the Traveler to quickly reach level 10 friendship with a favorite character, rewarding gamers with an exclusive name card for display.
1 Using Fragile Resin Too Early
Every time players level up their Adventure Rank, they’ll obtain rewards from the Adventurer’s Guild. One of these rewards is Fragile Resin, an item that will add 60 Original Resin upon use (making it one of the most useful items in the game).
Using precious Fragile Resin too early can be inefficient, simply because it’s better to save them until AR45 (when all the domains will give maximum rewards). It is highly recommended that new players save their Fragile Resin for artifact farming, allowing them more chances to obtain the item they require.
